I just read on another blog that Google crashed when doing the deep crawls for the next toolbar pr update. Matt Cutts said himself the other day to NOT expect one “in the next few weeks”. I guess it will be October now.
We’ll probably be carving pumkins when we see it.

Well, I think a sitemap in and of itself may not be too useful, though one with priority calculations (such as the one provided by the free WordPress Sitemaps plugin) helps Google know what you think is more or less valuable on your site. I also think having a Webmaster account helps Google give you the benefit of the doubt if they find something fishy or otherwise questionable on your site!

I am waiting impatiently for the update to see what I have done will improve my pagerank. But, there is really nothing we can do about it, is there? We can only wait and hope.

Alsux, I think we shouldn’t put too much emphasish on how important is to add a Google sitemap for our sites. As the web master is involved in SEO I assume the site created is fully spiderable and then the site map is not so important for ranking or PR. What do you think?

Probably not – usually subpages are less valued than a main page, but it all depends. Adding a Google sitemap via webmaster tools will help Google know what pages are valuable or not to you at least.

@Vincent: I have heard scattered stories of a partial update, but no page I know of personally or run has updated since March/April.

@Pocket: Yes, I’ve heard some of that too … that they’re having more issues and trying to deal with more scammy paid-link schemes. Still, it’s amazing that it has taken this long unless something huge is in the works!

Google is up to something. They are in the middle of cracking down on paid text links and PageRank is a large part of the text link business.
