Reddit Introduces MoveOn SubReddit Page – Risks Reddit Revolt from Liberals and Conservatives

Users Request Political SubReddit

Reddit users overwhelmingly voted up a request for a political subreddit (subdomain) on the site, only to have one added that is clearly oriented only toward liberal users. Admittedly, many (though far from all) Reddit users are liberal – but is that any excuse to openly alienate the minority? MoveOn is unselfconsciously named after the popular MoveOn.org, a definitively left-wing group that is frustrated with the current Republican administration.

Title/Font Clearly Taken from Liberal Political Site

Now, our own site is left-leaning without a doubt, but always open for discussion from both sides of an issue. Even liberal users are criticizing the new category as overly inflammatory. The big question is: if even liberal users are frustrated with this liberal category, how can this lead to anything but a full-out Reddit revolt be in the works?

  1. Maybe if they had a liberal SubReddit page and a conservative one it would work, but even then it’d make way more sense to just have a politics one. I’m left-wing too but if I were a Reddit user I’d be against it.
